Hand, foot, and like gear.- To impart a rapid initial movement followed by a slow final adjustment to a slidable member a, an operating spindle s has screw threaded engagement of steep pitch with the frame or bracket in which it is mounted and oppositely inclined ordinary threaded engagement with the slidable member. Initial rotation of the spindle causes the steeply threaded part g to ride through the bracket c to one side or the other side thereof, carrying the slidable member a bodily with it. Upon emerging, with continued rotation, the steeply threaded part g bears against the face of the bracket and takes end thrust whilst the normal thread h completes the adjustment. Projections f facilitate re-entry of the steeply threaded part g on the return movement. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), one form of the invention (Fig. 3, not shown) is stated to be applicable to steam engine controls. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
