Turning.-A machine tool such as a turret lathe for working on bar stock comprises a driving pulley 19 connected to the driving shaft 23 of the machine through bevel gearing 21, vertical shaft 20, a bevel gearing 22. In this way the driving pulley may be moved about the axis of the shaft 20, to enable the machine to be placed at any angle to the transmission shafting 18 while maintaining the driving pulley parallel to the shafting. Fig. 1 shows a battery of machines arranged at 45‹ to the shafting, while the dotted lines show the maximum inclination permissable if the driving pulleys are parallel to the machine axis. An extension of the shaft 20 may be arranged to drive a pump 27 for the cooling liquid.
