Abstract

278,487. Talbot, E. Aug. 26, 1926. Pistons; connecting-rods.-Endwise movement of a gudgeon pin is prevented by means of a removable tongue at one or both ends of the gudgeon-pin. The tongue 7, Fig. 1, is passed through slots in the gudgeon-pin boss 4 and is secured to the skirt by a stud 12, or otherwise. Alternatively, the tongue may be secured to the under side of the gudgeon-pin boss, or the end 22, Fig. 3, of the tongue may be sprung into a hole in a lug 23 on the under side of the boss. In a modification the tongue is formed integrally with a spring clip, which embraces the exterior of the gudgeon-pin boss. In a piston having a detachable skirt 13, Fig. 2, the tongue lies in the space 14 between the skirt and the gudgeon-pin boss and is formed with lugs 16 engaging either the gudgeon-pin boss, or the lug 21 by which the skirt is secured to the boss. The lower end of the tongue is sprung into a groove 19 in the edge of the skirt. The tongues may be replaced by a spring ring threaded through slots in the gudgeon-pin bosses and engaging the interior of the skirt.
