Eccentric-actuated pumps; regulating delivery by opening by-pas.ses; valve-gear; valves, arrangement of.-A pump for liquid fuel &c. comprises a plunger e operated by an eccentric h., and a slide valve f operated by an eccentric i. The plunger is connected by a screw-thread to a crosshead r driven by the eccentric, and the valve is similarly connected to a yoke x pivotally connected by a link z to a lever 6 which is oscillated by the eccentric i about an eccentric axis 10 which may be adjusted by the governor to adjust the longitudinal position of the valve. During the first part of the suction stroke, fuel enters the pump barrel through a port l, annular channel k, and passage p, and during the latter part it enters through the passage l<1> and another passage n not controlled by the valve. The passage l<1> may also be independent of the valve. During the first part of the delivery stroke, until the port l<1> is closed by the plunger, the fuel is returned to suction, during the next part it is. delivered through the passage p to the injection nozzle, and during the last part, it is returned to suction through a passage q which is opened at a variable point by the valve j.
