Machines using finished staples.-A machine, for example of the kind described in Specifications 17123/08 and 9438/09, for hingeing together two boards by means of interlocking staples driven by vertical and horizontal stapling devices on a fixed stapling head, is provided with one or more similar adjustable stapling heads to drive other pairs of staples in spaced relation to the pair driven by the fixed head. As shown, the fixed head b on the frame a is provided with the usual vertical and horizontal stapling devices b<2>, b<1> supplied with staples by inclined slideways and operated by a two-armed lever c<1>, c on a rock-shaft e connected by a bell-crank lever to a driven shaft. The second, adjustable stapling head h is attached to a casting j fixed to an upper rod k and slidable along a lower rod k<1>. This head has vertical and horizontal stapling devices b<2>, b' operated by a two-armed lever p<2>, p<3> from the rock-shaft e and supplied with staples by slideways n. The upper rod k is adjustable in a bearing m by means of a screwed rod r, so that the head h can be set towards or from the fixed head b. The fixed head b has the usual abutment v and work-supporting table t carried by a vertically-moving member u operated to press the work against the abutment before staple driving. The member u has an extension u<2> adjustably supporting a table w co-operating with an abutment v<1> carried by the casting j for the movable head h, so that the work is also properly supported below the movable head.
