Abstract

276,633. Whitney Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Belcher, W. J.). Aug. 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Driving - chains with separate joint pins. - Driving- chains,, which may be of the multiplelink-type, for use in automobiles &c. are built up from links 1, 3 each of which straddles and rides upon a single sprocket tooth 15, the contacting surfaces x, a, y, &c. of the chain being formed concentrically with the pivot pins B, which may be split, as shown, solid, or of the two-part rocker type. When the chain flexes about the pivot pins, the engaging surfaces do not lose contact. To avoid friction, particularly when wear occurs, recesses 11 are provided in the links above the sprocket teeth. The teeth and spaces upon sprocket wheels of different diameters with which the chain is intended to engage are so formed that the points x, a, y of contact always lie at approximately the same distance from the points of the sprocket teeth. The faces of the teeth may be straight or of other form.
