Abstract

T e n s i o n arrangements. - A sprocket wheel or pulley for taking up the slack in a chain or belt rotates freely on a hollow hub 1 which is mounted eccentrically on a stud or shaft 3 and contains a spring 6. The inner end of the spring 6 engages with a tongue 8 formed on a sleeve 4 which can be rotated to wind up the spring 6 and then held in position by a pin 11 passing through the shaft 3. Should the spring break the hub 1 is held in place by a pawl engaging teeth on the sleeve 4 which are slightly undercut to allow a small backward movement after engagement.
