Abstract
276,506. Hastam, J. B. Sept. 8, 1926. Sprinklers, automatic.-The ball valve c of a fusible sprinkler head d, Fig. 1, is held closed on its s.eating g by a strut comprising a tubular member or hollow cylinder b and a flat Y-shaped stem a. The member b has notches to engage a knife-edge e on the stem a, and the limbs of the latter are soldered to the periphery of the member b at f. Pressure is applied to the strut by a screw k, and a spreader h is provided. The ball c is of porcelain or other non-corrosive material. In a modification, the stem a has wing- like extensions to embrace, and to be soldered to, the member b. In another modification, Fig. 9, the ball c is elliptical in form and the tube b has prong-like extensions b<1> which abut against an auxiliary stem-piece a<2>, the lower end of which engages a slot in the stem a and the upper end of which is soldered to the tube b between the wing-like extensions a<1> of the stem a. A spring j is interposed between the pressure screw h and a plug i which supports the strut.
