Abstract
276,309. Chambon, L. Aug. 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Addressing and like machines. - Printing- blocks, type-bars, or plates placed on an intermittently actuated endless band 1 are moved into guides 8 and pass in turn into grooves in plates 10 carried by a pivoted lever 11, which raises the blocks into grooves in a reciprocatable carriage 13, by which each block is moved into one of a series of holders 18 radially arranged on an intermittently rotated drum 19. Each holder 18 when it reaches the top position is raised by the lever 11 into position to receive a block, and each block when it arrives at the lowest position is inked, and a web of paper supported on a platen 27 pivoted at 28 is pressed against the block, the web being advanced by feed rollers 35, 36, cut into sheets, and delivered in counted batches. The platen 27 is actuated by an eccentric 29, the drum 19 is rotated by a Maltese cross gear, the speed being variable so that two or more impressions may be printed from each block, and the lever 11 and carriage 13 are actuated from cams fixed on a shaft 44. Where printing is required from a part only of each block, a cover 40 is moved over the other part by means of a cam on the shaft 44 acting through links 41, 42. Each block as it is moved into a holder 18 pushes the used block on to a delivery belt 7. Inking-apparatus.-The printing-blocks on the drum 19 are inked by rollers 23, 24 carried by a lever 25, which is pivoted at 65 and is oscillated bv a link 56 connected to the platen 27 so that the rollers move along a guide 31 to an inking- surface 47 supplied by a messenger roller 32 moved alternately into contact with a duct roller 34 and the surface 47.
