[Class 100 (i)] A device for delivering printed products, e.g. newspapers, in counted batches with the separate newspapers disposed vertically comprises means for delivering the products in overlapping formation and rendering uniform the spacing of the newspapers prior to the separation into batches. The newspaper copies Z, Fig. 2, are stripped from the folding - cylinder K of the machine by fingers 1 against which they are pressed by spring-fingers 37, 38, and pass between slower-moving belts 15, 16. On the belt-roller 3 rows of projectors 4 ... 8 are provided and are engaged successively by the leading edges of the copies so as to space them uniformly. Tongues 28, 30 guide the copies on to horizontal belts 31, 31<a>, where they can be inspected, or finally stopped if desired by tilting fingers 127 into vertical positions. From the belts 31<a> the copies are conveyed to belts 48, Fig. 5, cooperating with belts 49 to feed the copies over toothed discs 44 which reduce the spacing of the copies. The discs 44 may be mounted on the shaft 36 of the belts 31<a>. Belts 50, 56 carry the copies along vertical guides 53 to the batching apparatus. This comprises endless bands 55 passing over rollers 84 and 85, and discs 83, the latter being carried by arms 80 suspended from a rod 79 and driven from a shaft 71 geared to the shaft 43 of the discs 44. Chains 60 passing over wheels 62, 63 carry blocks 90 running in guides 94 and in which rotate spindles 75 integral with fingers 76 which separate the copies into batches P. Projections 100 on the spindles 75 engage lugs 99 on the blocks 90 so as to hold the fingers 76 in vertical position under the action of springs on the spindles. Each pair of fingers 76 is tilted backwardly just prior to the completion of a batch by arms 111 on a shaft 110 intermittently rotated from the shaft 71, the arms engaging the projections 100 on the spindle 75. When the batch is completed, the projections are released and the fingers 76 spring back to the vertical position. Toothed wheels 115 driven from the shaft 71, are situated vertically beneath the guides 53 to facilitate the horizontal displacement of the copies with the bands 55. The delivery-apparatus is driven normally from the shaft 10 of the folding-cylinder K, but a special device, e.g. an electric motor, may be provided for operating the delivery when the printing-machine is at rest so as to clear the delivery of copies. The speed of the shaft 71 can be varied according to the number of products it is required to collect between successive sets of fingers 76.
