[Class 100 (i)] Delivery apparatus.-A delivery device for rotary printing-machines comprises means for feeding the printed sheets 1 in overlapping relationship to a conveyer 4 moving substantially perpendicularly to the direction of feed, means for transferring the sheets from the feeding means to the conveyer, one or more tongues or the like 12 adapted to enter temporarily between the sheets at predetermined intervals corresponding to predetermined batches of sheets but not movable with the sheets, means for arresting the succeeding sheets, and means for imparting an acceleration to the conveyer 4 during the arresting of the succeeding sheets for the purpose of separating the counted batch from the succeeding sheets. The sheets are fed folded edge foremost by means of helical wires 2 which pass around lower rolls 7 adjustably mounted and arranged so that the sheets are slightly curved so as to be capable of standing on the conveyer 4. The sheets pass guide rails 3 adjustable for the purpose of adjusting the curvature of the sheets. The conveyer 4 comprises three chains provided with small teeth which compel the sheets thereon to retain their curved form. A cam 9, rotating at a speed which varies with the speed of the printing-machine, controls a lever 11 which carries a number of tongues 12 which, during their upward motion, enter between the sheets 1 and prevent the following sheets continuing their motion. The spindle 5a of the left-hand rollers 5 supporting the conveyer chains 4 carries a ratchet-wheel 13 engaged by a pawl 14a attached to a lever 14 rotatably supported on the spindle 5a and connected to the lever 11 bv a rod 15. When the lever 11 is moved by the cam 9, the conveyer 4 is accelerated by the ratchet and pawl means, thereby providing a gap between adjacent batches of sheets arranged on the conveyer 4.
