[Class 78 (i)] In an apparatus for drying sheet material, such as tinplate for the manufacture of container closures, comprising an endless conveyer having opposed runs extending through a drying oven, devices for supporting the sheets in edge relation to the runs, and mechanism for delivering sheets automatically from the end of one run to a sheet coating mechanism, the sheets are automatically delivered by conveyer means from the coating mechanism to the ovenentering end of the other run of the oven conveyer. As shown, the sheets are supported on the oven conveyer 12 by frames or wickets 18 which are substantially upright on the upper run of the conveyer and radial at the ends. Printed sheets are delivered to the upper run and are transferred from the end of the upper run by dogs 39, 40 on a pair of conveyer chains 32 to conveyer belts 62, the sheets being tilted clear of hooks 19 on the frames 18 by a bell-crank 50 actuated from the teeth of a gear 52 on the conveyer shaft 13. From the belts 62 the plates are delivered in inverted position through a shoot 73 to a conveyer 79 and a coating machine 92 of the roller type, from which they are carried by a belt conveyer 100 and over guide fingers 107 to the frames 18 at the beginning of the lower run. Bevelled guide discs 72, 106 guide the edges of the sheets as they leave and enter the frames 18 of the oven conveyer. The conveyers &c. are driven in synchronism from a motor 93.
