275,933. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Aug. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Electric endosmose.-An anti-halation material for coating between the sensitive emulsion and the support of photographic plates or films is prepared by electrodialysis from a solution of an. organic colloid of hydrophil nature, containing manganese compounds. The layer may be prepared, for example, by introducing gelatin, agar-agar, cellulose esters, &c., containing potassium permanganate or manganese dioxide into the middle cell of an electrodialysis apparatus having an electropositive diaphragm such as chrome gelatin, a fabric of animal fibre, chrome leather, &c. on the anode side of the middle cell, and an electronegative diaphragm such as parchment paper, sail cloth, a cellulose ester, &c. on the cathode side thereof. After dialysis, the colloid solution may he neutralized, or mixed with electrolytes or with a further quantity of colloid, before casting on the support.
