388,670. Photographic sensitive layers. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.- GES., Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Aug. 4, 1932, No. 21905. Convention date, Aug. 4, 1931. [Class 98 (ii).] In the process of sensitizing a bleach-out dye layer after the layer has been otherwise finished, bathing the layer in the sensitizing solution is avoided (1) by applying a solution of the sensitizer, with or without colloid admixture, by rollers or by spraying or pouring ; or (2) by subjecting the layer to the vapour of the sensitizer in a closed vessel in the presence or absence of other volatile substances such as alcohol, and if required with application of heat or under reduced pressure ; or (3) by causing the sensitizer to diffuse into the layer, with or without the aid of heat or moisture, from a superimposed carrying layer as of paper, gelatin, cellulose or an ester or ether thereof- " cellophane " and pergamyn being specially mentioned. This carrying layer, if transparent, may be allowed to remain attached to the bleach-out layer. Examples are given of the various methods of sensitizing, in which allylthiourea (thiosinamine) and its derivatives, dissolved in water or alcohol and ether containing also, if desired, colloids such as gelatin or cellulose derivatives, are instanced as sensitizers ; and in which bleach-out layers are mentioned containing unspecified dyestuffs in a vehicle comprising gelatin or a mixture of collodion and ethylbenzylcellulose.
