Abstract
275,387. Garrod, A. J. July 2, 1926. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors. - In wireless receiving-circuits of the kind employing a series of resistance-coupled valves a, h, m, n with coupling-resistances e, m<2> of the order of megohms. the resistance j in the plate circuit of the detector valve is of a substantially lower value in order that a reaction coil k included in this circuit may carry effective currents. An oscillatory circuit, which may comprise a frame aerial b, loading coil c and tuning- condenser d is connected across the grid and filament of the first valve a. The grid leaks h<1>, m<1>, n<1> connected to bias batteries r may be of the order of five to ten megohms. The plate resistances e, m<2> may be of three megohms and are of the type in which the ohmic resistance does not vary substantially with the voltage applied by the battery f. The resistance j may be of 500,000 ohms. The coupling-condensers g, l, q may be of 500 m.m.f. capacity. The filaments of the valves a, m may be run at a low, temperature. A reaction coil p may be interposed between the plate of the first valve a and the coupling-condenser g as described in Specification 275,388. The high-frequency amplifier may be omitted.
