Abstract

275,302. Costerton, H. A. April 29, 1926. Movable-abutment type; materials, special.-A rotary engine of the hinged abutment type is provided with inner end plates C cut away at Y so as to form shoulders against which the ends of the abutments D rest throughout their length when in the fully open position, so as to relieve the rotor G of pressure. The abutments D are folded into recesses in the cylinder by the pistons E on the rotor G, but are opened after the passage of the pistons E by the entering fluid pressure at N and by springs T. The abutments are of a light metal, such as aluminium bronze, which may be reinforced with perforated metal plates, or of woven wire frames with asbestos packings. A ratchet prevents rotation in the wrong direction.
