Sieves with compound or variable motion.- Apparatus for sifting household refuse consists of an enclosed receptacle, which may be in the form of a sanitary dust-bin, a frame D, Fig. 2, suspended from the rim B of the receptable by flexible members D<2> and adapted to support a sieve D<3> and a transverse axle E provided with quick drop cams E<1>, as shown in Fig. 4, which are caused to contact with striking bars D<1> on the frame D and impart to it a rocking and gyratory movement. The receptacle may comprise a base or bottom part A<1>, an intermediate part A<2> 'containing the sifting apparatus, and a cover.
