Abstract

Conveyers with linked carriers; driving-gear; auxiliary ropes.-An endless conveyer is driven indirectly by a driving pulley through the intermediary of an endless rope which directly engages the pulley and is permanently connected to the conveyer at longitudinally separated intervals. The conveyer d may be made of flexible material or of articulated steel plates, Fig. 17, which are overlapped and bent back and interfitted with a substantial initial clearance so as to permit appreciable extension before the overlapping bent-over borders abut. The conveyer is 'secured at intervals to the driving rope c by clips g each of which consists preferably of a U-shaped strap, Fig. 16, which is passed through a slot in the conveyer 'and secured by a split pin i. The strap is clamped to the rope by a bolt and nut h. In a modification, the ends of the strap are bent over on to the band and riveted thereto. The driving pulley carries pivoted gripping levers e, Fig. 11, which are forced inwards by the rope to grip it. As the jaws move inwards they bear against and distort a spring steel hoop f and thus effect the opening of the jaws on the opposite side of the pulley.
