Abstract

274,235. Semenoff, N., and Bogoslowsky, M. May 7, 1926. Influence machines.-An electrostatic machine of the rotating plate type is formed so that the plates work in vacuo. The vacuum may be formed in the machine while it is in operation by means of a rotating piston on the principle of a von Gaede or Holweck molecular pump within the machine itself. In the form shown, the hollow shaft 2, which carries the plates 10, passes through bosses 3<a>, 3<b> formed integrally in the machine casing and having internal passages 5<a>, 5<b> communicating with the vacuum chambers 4<a>, 4<b> which intercommunicate through openings 2<a>, 2<b> in the hollow shaft. The ends of the shaft are closed to atmosphere at 7, 2<c>. The terminal leads 9 of the machine are led through insulators 9.
