Centrifugal governors. -A governor comprises a weight 5 mounted on a spring blade 4 which is fixed to a rotary member 1 by a plate 4<a> and screw 4b so that the blade can bend at the point 4<c>. The blade carries a bent arm 6 provided with an electric contact 7 adapted to engage a contact 9 when the speed of the member 1 exceeds a certain limit. The contact 9 is carried by a fixed rod 8 in a metal plug 8a which is connected by a rod 8b to a slip ring 10. The contact 7 is connected to a slip ring 11. The rings 10, 11 are connected across a resistance in the field of the motor to be controlled. The contact 9 may be axially adjusted by screwed rod 8 engaging a nut 13 carried by the member 1. When using a shunt wound motor, a stationary contact 9<a> against which the contact 7 bears when the motor is at rest, short circuits the field resistance of the motor.
