Centrifugal governors; transmitting- mechanism. - In a synchronous governor of the Baudot type, the weight which when free and with the governor at rest would be brought to' the centre of the shaft so that its centre of gravity would be coaxial with the shaft with the spring in an unstrained conditin, is made in the form of a U-shaped lever 1 the spring 3, Fig. 4, being connected at its centre of gravity. and one end being pivoted at 1<a> to the disc. The other end 5 forms an electric contact and moves between a contact 6 and a stop 7. fixed to the disc. The positions of the contact strip and pivot are determined by the speed at which the governor is to act. The movable and fixed contacts are connected to rings 9 on the disc which are engaged by brushes which carry the controlling current. Normally the contact 5 is held free of the stop 7 and the contact 6. The governor controls the speed of a motor used for actuating telegraphic apparatus &c. When the motor used is a shunt-wound electric motor, the electric contact fixed to the disc is arranged at the outer side of the weight, and for a series wound motor may be arranged at tEe inner side. In a modified construction two independent governors are carried by the same disc to operate at different speeds. A bent leaf or other spring may be used in lieu of a helical spring.
