Abstract
272,590. Woollett, T., and Box, H. H. March 13, 1926. Knobs and handles, attaching.-For securing knobs, handles, dials, and like fittings to screwed spindles, particularly of wireless apparatus, the knob is provided with a flat plate having a central hole and slotted to form resilient tongues which act as a nut when turned on the spindle, but which yield sufficiently to allow it to pass on to the spindle. As applied to a knob 6 secured to the spindle 9 of a condenser for wireless apparatus, a thin metal circular plate 1 provided with slots radiating from a central hole 3 to form resilient tongues is clamped between the knob 6 and a dial 10. A washer 7 serves as an abutment for the dial. When the knob is thrust on to the screwed spindle 9 the tongues yield and then act as a nut when the knob is turned. A lock nut 11 is provided, and the vernier spindle 14 passes through a hole 12 in the knob. The knob 13 on the. spindle 14 may be provided with a resilient slotted plate similar to the plate 1. In a modified construction, a squared slotted plate is secured in a recess in the knob.
