Abstract

272,083. Coursey, P. R., and Dubilier Condenser Co. (1925), Ltd. Oct. 22, 1926. Condensers comprise a rack of self-contained structures each consisting of units appropriately connected together and to the terminals of the structure, the latter being connected together by transverse members located at or adjacent their ends and being also arranged so that any one may be removed and replaced independently of the other. A structure, Figs. 2, 3, comprises several condensers C mounted between strips 1, 2, preferably of channel shape, the strips being apertured or recessed to fit corresponding formations on the cores of the several condensers and being interconnected by ties 4. The connections shown are to bus-bars 5, 6 connected to insulated terminals 7, 8 on right-angled brackets 9 on the upper strip. A structure may comprise more than one row of units and several structures are assembled to form a rack as shown in Fig. 1 in which the strips 2 are connected at or adjacent their ends by transverse supports 10. The terminals may be interconnected by conductors 11, but other connections such as series, series parallel may be used. Several racks may be assembled in a framework suspended from the underside of a condenser tank lid. The condensers are impregnated when assembled either as structures, or in operative position in the rack, or even in the tank. thus minimizing the deleterious period of exposure to the air between impregnating and assembling in the oil tank. Reduced pressure or vacuum, followed by treatment, as by immersion, with oil or other insulating material is the process preferred.
