Abstract
265,773. Yoward, H. A. Feb. 10, 1926. Cases.-Boxes for electric batteries such as radio high-tension batteries are provided with a lid or closure 5, Figs. 1 and 4, carrying on its lower side contact blades 7 bearing directly upon and bridging the terminals 2, 3 of adjacent battery units 1, contacts 8 on the upper side of the lid being connected to the blades 7 and cooperating with a sliding contact 9 on a guide-bar- 10 to vary the number of units in circuit. The units 1 may be lamp batteries or accumulators and may be connected in series, parallel or series-parallel. The blades 7 may be held by longitudinally aligned rivets the heads of which form the contacts 8 and may be of T- shape extending alternately towards opposite sides of the box with the inner ends connected to the contacts 8 and with cross-pieces bridging contacts of adjacent units 1, being alternately reversed in position and connected in series by the blades 7. One terminal 12 of the battery bears on one terminal 3 of the end unit. 1 and the other battery terminal 11 is connected to the bar 10 by a strip 13. The contact 9 comprises a perforated bent spring and the bar 10 is of square or other, non-circular cross-section and is mounted in brackets at its ends or has its ends bent down and secured to the lid 5. The bar 10 may carry several insulated contacts for use with different valves. The box 4 may be of wood and the lid 5 of ebonite, fibre or wood may be hinged or removable or secured by screws. The units may be in more than one row in the box, each row having a sliding contact, the rows being conected in series or used independently.
