Abstract

139,694. Bayles, E. A., Higham, H., and British Insulated &. Helsby Cables, Ltd. May 23, 1919. Condensers.-A number of batteries of condenser units are mounted on metal rods 2 carried by frames which are held in position in a container 3 filled with oil. The units 1 of each battery are wound on tubes of paper or the like and threaded on the rods 2, insulating-collars 7 and distance-pieces 8. being provided between the units. The ends of the rods 2 are screwthreaded, and the units constituting each battery are pressed together and held in position by nuts 6. The insulating-collars 7 are formed with wings or projections, with holes through which the connecting-wires 9 are passed. The carrier frames comprise hard-wood upper and lower members 12 connected together by rods and distance-tubes 14. The rods 2 carrying the condenser units are threaded through holes 17 in the members 12 and secured under tension by nuts and washers. The assembling operations are carried out under oil in a shallow tank or tray, from which the complete frames are transferred to the container 3, which is provided with parallel wooden bars 4 to receive them.
