Abstract

270,426. Stone & Co., Ltd., J., and Darker, A. H. Feb. 10, 1926. Supplying consuming devices.-In the electric lighting, heating, and ventilating of railway vehicles having an auxiliary circuit in addition to the normal circuit, current collectors are disposed on the exterior of the vehicle and are adapted to be projected to engage line conductors when the normal circuit is inoperative. The vehicle a has a normal installation of battery B, lamps L and switch S, the battery being charged by the usual dynamo, the switch S being electromagnetic and adapted to open the circuit when the batteries are down to a predetermined condition. The main leads to the lamp circuit are connected with external collector arms e, f, which are secured to springs g which tend to keep the arms flat against the side of the vehicle. The arms carry an insulated handle k enabling an operator to swing them into contact with line conductors l, m suitably supported on a goods shed. A rheostat o is included in the auxiliary circuit. When the line voltage is very different from the normal voltage, a separate set of lamps is provided. The arms may pivot on a horizontal axis and fold upwardly against the vehicle. An external pilot or coloured lamp may be included in the auxiliary circuit for indication purposes.
