Abstract

400,246. Supply systems. WATSON, T. F. E. and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. April 18, 1932, No. 11083. [Class 38 (iv).] Charging and discharging batteries ; substituting sources in service.-A dry surface contact rectifier reversely connected offers a high impedance to the charging and a low impedance to the discharging current. A D.C. supply circuit 1, 2 is connected to a load circuit 3, 4 and to a battery 9 which supplies the load circuit in the event of failure of the supply. A rectifier 7 shunted by a resistance 11 is connected in the battery circuit. The charging rate is adjusted by means of this resistance. In a modification the load circuit 3, 4 and battery 9 are fed from an A.C. circuit through a rectifier.
