Abstract

An electropneumatic vehicle brake system having an emergency-operating capability comprises a steady current loop, electropneumatic emergency brake valves connected electrically to the loop, and emergency brake switches in the loop for controlling the operation of the brake valves. In the emergency-braking mode of each brake switch, the electrical circuit of the loop is not only interrupted but also earthed to the body of the vehicle so that unintentional supply of current to the loop, due to e.g. faulty operation elsewhere of a control switch, does not prevent emergency braking being carried out.
