468,843. Supply systems for consumption apparatus; charging batteries. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 13, 1936, No. 1110. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] Resistance control.-A main supply and a reserve supply of lower voltage are associated with a resistance or the equivalent in the load circuit, the value of the resistance being increased or decreased automatically in accordance with the presence or absence of the main source. In the embodiment shown, a relay C across the track rails 1, 2 of a section is supplied from a main source consisting of a transformer T and rectifiers R or from a battery E. The main source charges the battery and supplies the relay C through resistance 8, 9, relay P being then operated to close switch 6 and open 7. When the main supply fails, switches 67, are reversed thereby short-circuiting section 8 of the resistance and opening the main supply circuit.
