Abstract
270,086. Wallis, H. C., and Askey, J. April 30, 1926. Capsules and the like, applying. - Relates to capping devices for bottles &c. of the type comprising a number of radially spring - pressed members arranged in a circle which are axially pressed and closed around a bottle cap by a cup-like tool-holder by which the members are enclosed, and consists in carrying the spring members on flat springs 3 arranged around a tool-element 2 which is enclosed by a tool-holder 5. The cam action of the holder in descending causes the parts 1 to close in on the skirt of a bottle cap. A spring 6 is interposed between the tool-element and the holder, and normally presses the element 2 against a screw stop 7. A thrust-member which holds the caps in position before they are closed is fitted within the circle formed by the capping members and may be separated from the element 2 by ball-bearings so that relative rotation is facilitated when the capping members are spun.
