Abstract

Disc brakes; actuated by speed regulators; magnetic brakes.-A centrifugal brake comprises: a pair of discs c', c<2> movable axially on a sleeve b secured to a shaft a and a number of weights d movable radially against the action of adjustable springs d<1> on slides e secured to the sleeve between the discs. The tapered upper part of each weight co-operates with inclined parts on the discs c<1>, c<2> so that, as the weights move outwards under the action of centrifugal force, the discs are moved apart and into contact with fixed plates i, i<1>, the speed at which the brake comes into operation being determined by the adjustment of the springs d'. As shown, the speedlimiting brake is combined with an electromagnetic brake, the plate i being movable under the action of the magnet.
