Abstract
270,022. Fairey, C. R., and Lobelle, M. Feb. 11, 1926. Framework; fuselages.-In framed structures such as fuselages, the longerons a are united to the struts b by saddle pieces c riveted to the longerons and welded to the struts, lugs h, g for the attachment of bracing wires being received in slots in the struts and welded thereto and to the saddle pieces. The saddle pieces c extend rather more than halfway around the longerons to which they are secured by pairs of rivets d which pass through the interior of the longeron. The longerons a are formed of high tensile steel tubes whilst the struts, lugs, and saddle pieces are of low grade steel. Fig. 1 shows a fuselage built up from four longerons a and a plurality of rectangular frames b, which are preferably built up separately with saddle pieces c at their corners and afterwards secured to the longerons a in parallel planes and stayed by bracing wires m. A longeron may be easily replaced by removing the rivets d.
