Abstract

269,520. Cross, W. M. April 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces.-A furnace for neat treatment of oil, as in refining, comprises a combustion chamber, 2, Fig. 1, on the walls of which are arranged tubes 8 exposed to the radiant heat of the flames and a heating- chamber 3 separated by the partition wall 4 from the combustion chamber 2 and containing groups of tubes 5, 12 exposed to the heat of gases leaving the combustion chamber. The oil to be heated circulates through the tubes 5, thence through the tubes 8 and tubes 10 in the roof, and finally passes through the tubes 12 before leaving the furnace. The furnace is heated by gas burners 28 Fig. 5, and oil burners 29 arranged in gratings 27 through which heated air passes from chambers 26 to support combustion, the air being supplied to the chambers 26 by a fan after passing through a regenerator arranged in the waste gas flue 19. The combustion products are exhausted from the chamber 3 by fans 34 and discharged into the outlet flue 19. A protective screen of waste gases is delivered in front of the tubes 3 at the side walls of the combustion chamber from the flue 19 by way of passages 31, 32. The tubes 8 in the combustion chamber are connected at the corners by unions 13, Fig. 6, provided with cleaning plugs 14. These unions are arranged outside the combustion chamber in recesses provided with insulated doors 16. Combustion is controlled by a CO<2> meter arranged in the flue 19. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the invention is not limited to the treatment of oil. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
