Road signals.-In apparatus for signalling the approach of a vehicle towards a cross-road &c. bars C, C' are actuated in turn by the wheels of the vehicle, the first closing a signal circuit, and turning a pivotally mounted controller G, while the second operates a controller resetting device such as a bar E. A lug A <4> on a pivoted extension A<1> of the plunger A actuated by the bar C engages an arm G<1> to turn the controller and bring a lug G<6> into position to support the bar E and prevent a notch E<2> on the bar engaging a tooth F<1>. The controller is also moved sidewavs by a wedge A<7> so that an arm G<3> clears a projection E<4> on the bar E, a spring stop G<4> and the projection E<4> holding the controller in this position after the plunger A has been raised by a scring A<6>. Actuation of the bar C' causes the bar E to deflect the extension A<1> but the bar is prevented from dropping by the lug G<6>, and on its return movement pulls back the controller by the projection E<4> engaging the nose of the arm G<3>. When a vehicle is proceeding away from the cross-road &c., the plunger B is depressed first, and causes the bar E to deflect the extension A<1>, thus preventing a signal being given when when the plunger A is subsequently depressed. The bar E falls, since the lug G<6> is not in a position to support it and is prevented from returning by the engagement of the notch E<2> with the tooth F<1>. As the extension A<1> rises, a tooth A' engages the point of the bar E, which is then withdrawn by the return of the plunger B. Duplicate sets of mechanism may be placed across the width of the road and may operate one or two signals. The signals may be visible or audible, and are effected by the closing of the contacts D<1>, D<2> on the depression of the rod D.
