Abstract
269,175. Siemens - Schuckertwerker Ges. April 7, 1926, (Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Oil switches; switches. quick-action.-A switch member 11 is latched in both on and off positions and when released is driven to its other position by a spring 13, assisted in some cases by an auxiliary spring, the momentum of the moving parts serving to carry the spring 13 past its neutral or unstressed position and then to stress it so that when the switch is next actuated, it will help to return the member 11 to its original position. As shown in Fig. 1, the movable contact member 11 of an oil switch is respectively latched in its full line and dotted-line positions by latches 21, 31 which are released by projections 25, 35 on a rod 20' movable in a vertical direction by the operating handle 19. The spring 13 is already in a state of compression but movement of the handle 19 into the dotted-line position compresses it further till the catch 21 is actuated. The spring 13 then expands, driving the member 11 downwards, and finally, when it has attained a state of tension, serves to bring the parts to rest just as the member 11 is latched by the latch 31. The actuation in the reverse direction is similar, the initial movement of the handle 19 serving to stretch the spring 13 further. In a modification, Fig. 3, the movement of the handle 19 serves - merely to trip the catches 21, 31, the spring 13 being helped at each actuation by an auxiliary spring 40 connected to a rod 41 carrying the member 11, the other end of the spring 40 being connected to a handle 43 which is moved into the full or dotted line position prior to operation of the handle 19. In another modification, Fig. 4 the switch member 11 is connected through linkage to a lever 54 latched in its two positions by the latches 63, 73 and moved to its other position at each actuation by a spring 13 the end 57 of which is first moved to the appropriate end of a slot 61 by a handle 60.
