Steps. - In road vehicles, a portion of the floor adjacent the door is adapted to be lowered to form a step and to be raised into its normal position as part of the floor when not in use as a step and when the door is closed. A metallic shield f secured to the floor b and to the running-board g is provided with pivot pins or bolts h on which side members l are arranged to swivel by means of slots o. The side members l carry the portion c of the floor which is adapted in its lowered position to act as a step. Dowels m, m<1> are provided adapted, in the raised position of the member c, to engage the floor b and a hinged member d carried by the door a and, in its lowered position, to engage a slot in the shield f.
