Abstract

268,876. Harding, H. J. Jan. 7, 1926. Spray carburettors. - In carburettors having two or more nozzles for feeding different fuels, the supply of the separate fuels or of a mixture thereof is controlled by a manually-actuated slide which serves as the throttle valve, the air inlet to the carburettor being invariable. A nozzle 1 is fed with petrol or other light fuel from a float chamber 3 and a second nozzle 2 wtih paraffin, alcohol or other heavy fuel from a float chamber 4. The nozzles are screwed to hollow plugs 10 each of which is provided with inlets 12 for fuel and with an internal tubular part 13 which is removable. The nozzles may be bent so as to extend along the air passage 5 and their slit-like orifices are adapted to be controlled by a throttle slides 6 having a circular opening. This opening may be partly obscured by a nose 7 which serves to cover the light fuel nozzle 1 as the heavy fuel nozzle 2 is uncovered. The slide 6 is located in a recess 14, is loaded by a spring 16 and is actuated by a Bowden cable 15. The cover plate 18 of the recess has a pipe connection 19 to the engine. Two or more nozzles may constitute a group fed from the same source of fuel and one or more of the nozzles or groups thereof may supply steam or gas to the mixture.
