268,289. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 24, 1926, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent opposecl. Cellulose carboxylates; preparatory treatment of cellulose.-Cellulose to be used for the manufacture of cellulose esters is pretreated with lactic acid. The process may be applied to cotton and to any other cellulosic substance which is free from lignin. For an example, cotton is treated at 80‹ C. with 80 per cent lactic acid; after pressing, the fibre is washed and dried. The expressed acid may be used for the treatment of a fresh batch of material. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to Specification 263,128. This reference does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
