Abstract

268,230. Hunter, E. Sept. 29, 1926. Mules.-Means is provided to defleet the winding-chain and vary its effective length during the movement of the carriage relatively to slow down the speed of the spindles as the down coils are being wound, so that fewer and steeper down coils are wound. The winding-chain 4, 5, Fig. 1, has attached to it a chain 10 secured to a strap 8 on the winding arm 1. The strap 8 is adjustable but is arranged to keep a constant distance from the strap 6 in all their positions along the arm 1. At the commencement of the inward run the chain 10 deflects the winding-chain and gradually allows it to straighten and to increase in effective length slowing down the spindles. When the down coils have been laid the arrangement is such that the winding-chain is straight and the chain 10 is slack. The auxiliary chain may be arranged below the winding-chain in which case the winding speed of the tin-roller must be adjusted for a normal speed for the up coils. The winding-chain may be deflected by a horn 17, Fig. 4, on the strap 16 to which the winding-chain 15 is attached. A link with pivotal joints to allow it to bend may replace the auxiliary chain.
