Abstract

268,211. Zwicker, C. June 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Condensers have plates 7, 8 in the form of part or whole surfaces of revolution, for example conical, the outer one being fixed and serving as a dust protector and the inner one being movable towards or away from it by means of a pin 4 on the spindle and a slot 5 formed on a sleeve 6 to which the moving plate is secured. The slot may be shaped to produce a suitable characteristic of capacity increase. Secured to the sleeve 6 is a guide-pin 11 passing through a hole in the base, and a spring 12 anchored between the pin 11 and the base causes the pin to follow the guiding face and the hole and so prevent backlash and rotation of the electrode 6. To prevent contact between the plates, while allowing a full 360‹ rotation of the spindle, a stop 13 mounted on the base co-operates with an abutment 14 on a ring 15 which is loose on the spindle and has a slot 16 for a stop 17 on the spindle. Referring to Fig. 5, the spindle and stop 17 can move in a counterclockwise direction a short distance before engaging the end of the slot 16 and moving the ring 15 with its abutment 14. A mica or other insulating coating and a retracting-spring 18 may be provided.
