Locking vehicle wheels by positive detents.- The pawl of a wheel-locking device for preventing movement of a vehicle is mounted on the clamp plate of tha bearing spring. A device for locking the reverse gear lever of a motor vehicle simultaneously with throwing the pawl into the operative position is also described. A ratchet disc f, which may be secured to the brake drum of the rear wheels, is adapted to be engaged by a pawl e pivoted on a bracket c forming part of the upper clamp plate of the spring p. The pawl is controlled by a Bowden cable k connected to a lever k<l> and the inner wire of which passes through a flange c<1> on the bracket. An additional Bowden cable p, Fig. 4, also connected to the lever k<1> controls a sliding member s mounted on the gate v of the gear lever so as to prevent the reverse gear from being put into operation when the pawl e is engaged with the ratchet for preventing rearward movement of the vehicle. The device may be arranged to prevent forward as well as rearward movement of the vehicle. It may also be applied to trailer vehicles, the breakage of the control cable consequent upon a break away of the trailer causing the pawl to engage the ratchet.
