Abstract

267,027. Baentsch, F., and Stober, A. Oct. 4, 1926. Dampers.-To prevent the escape of heat from the flues 2 of a boiler furnace to the stack 3 when the plant is at a ' standstill " and the damper 4 closed, an additional damper 5 is arranged between the damper 4 and the stack 3 to provide a compartment 6 to which air is admitted by a valve 7. When the damper 5 is closed, a tappet 16 on the actuating rope 17 engages wtih a counterweight 15 on the actuating rope 14 of the valve 7 which is thereby lifted to admit air to the chamber 6. Instead of separate dampers, a compound damper, shown in Figs. 3 and 4, may be employed. This damper comprises plates 26, 27 connected by transverse members 39 adapted to slide in a frame 20. When the damper is lowered air is admitted to the compartment between the damper plates bv flaps 29 which are opened by push rods 30. The air escapes through openings 40 in the members 30, and thence through the space between the damper and guides to the stack. Rollers 34, 36 resting in pockets at the top of the damper frame prevent leakage of air into the flue.
