Abstract
266,897. Gminder, E. Feb. 19, 1926. Breaking and scutching apparatus; softening fibres.-In an apparatus for treating low grade material such as hemp, entangled and short fibre material, and waste yarns and rags, of the kind in which the material is placed in a container 1, Fig. 1, and operated on by weighted rotary members 4, 5, means such as toothed rollers 6 are provided to turn and entangle the material between the members 4, 5. The rollers 6, which may be conical, are carried by arms fixed to the central shaft 3 and are rotated in the opposite direction to the members 4, 5 by bevel gearing. The material may be passed between a pair of toothed rollers. The conical rollers may have their larger ends nearer to the central shaft. The floor 2 of the container is perforated and is provided with a hole 20 which can be covered by a door 13, through which the material can be fed by a roller 10 from the belt 11. The material can be discharged on to the belt 11 by the same roller. The central shaft 3, Fig. 4, also carries rakes 8 which are given a vertical reciprocation by a crank 85 operating a slide 86 carrying the rake.
