Stays.-A construction of stay for casements, skylights, &c. comprises a bar 1 pivoted to a bracket 2, Fig. 2, secured to the window &c. and provided with a slot with notched edges 4. An upstanding screw 6, Fig. 5, carried by a plate 5 secured to the frame &c. passes through a channelsectioned guide plate 5<a> in which the member 1 is adapted to slide, and through the slot. A hollow domed member 7<a>, slidable on the screw, yieldingly engages the notched edges of the slot under the action of a spring 8<a> enclosed as shown between the member 7a and a cap or nut 9<a> threaded on the screw 6. The cap may be screwed down to bear on member 7a to lock it against yielding movement. Fig. 6 shows an alternative construction of the members 7<a>, 9<a>. The screw 6 may be of three-start lead.
