Abstract

Coupling driving-axles or wheels.- In motor vehicle driving mechanism in which the driving-wheels are mounted in pairs on short axles at the ends of equalizing beams rocking on the casing of the usual live axle, the equalizing beams consist of totally enclosed casings for the trains of gear which drive the wheels. In the form shown, pairs of driving-wheels 11 are mounted at each end of the usual rear axle 6. The axles 10 of the wheels 11 are carried at the ends of beams 7 which are rockingly mounted one at each end of 'the casing 6 enclosing differential gear and the live axle 5. The wheels are driven from the axle 5 by spurgearing 12, 13, 15 revolving within the beams. To facilitate removal, each wheel with its axle 10 and gear 15 is mounted in a casing 17 readily detachable from the end of the beam. The wheels may be driven from the shaft 5 by chain or differential bevel-gearing. The beams may be crossconnected or the two front wheels may be brought together between the beams.
