Abstract

266,146. Bolton, A. March 10, 1926. Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means. - Fixed apparatus for lubricating the axles of colliery tubs and the like comprises a lubricant lifting wheel E mounted in and partially enclosed by a segmental hood B which has an ellipticallycurved upper surface with which passing tub axles coact and which is resiliently mounted on the pan K of the lubricator by the provision of a fulcrum C at one end and a spring support D at the other end, the wheel depending into lubricant contained in the pan. Ratchet teeth L on the side of the wheel coact with a spring-pressed pawl H mounted in the pan, whereby, on depression of the hood by a passing axle A, a rotary movement is imparted to the wheel. A spring washer S prevents retrograde movement of the wheel. The periphery of the wheel is in contact with the knife-edged end O of an elongated slot in the hood and is spaced from the other end P of the slot, whereby lubricant is scraped from the periphery of the wheel, which may be plain or toothed, and is exuded on to the upper surface of the hood. As the axle A rolls onwards, it picks up lubricant from the surface of the hood.
