Abstract

Static contact rectifiers, arrangements of.-A rectify. ing device comprises a contact between aluminium and a sulphide, such as cuprous sulphide, enclosed in a sulphuretting atmosphere to prevent oxidation of the aluminium. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 a copper cup 1 is closed by a " bakelite " or like insulating disc 3 with an air-tight packing ring 10. A plate 6 of aluminium, which should be carefully polished before insertion, is arranged beneath the disc 3 and the cup 1 is filled with a paste 7 of a cuprous sulphide, preferably formed by the direct action of sulphur on copper, and a sulphuretting liquid such as hydro. sulphide of ammonia. Several arrangements of such devices in electric circuits are described. That shown in Fig. 3 is designed for producing high and low tension rectified currents from an alternating current. A transformer 12 has two secondaries 14, 16. The secondary 14 gives low tension current and has a central tapping 15 which is connected to one terminal A of a filtering device A - - D. The other terminal B of the filtering device is connected to the two ends of the secondary 14 through rectifiers 17, 18, a condenser 19 being placed across the filtering device. One end of the. high-tension secondary 16 is connected through rectifiers 20, 21 to the terminals E, F of a second filtering device F - - H. Across the terminals E, F are connected two condensers 22, 3 between which is connected the other end of the secondary 16. An arrangement of several secondaries connected like 16 in series in also described.
