Blocks acting on drums.-In a printing machine in which the brake on the spindle of the websupply roll is varied automatically by mechanism actuated by a floating roller over which the web passes, the brake-actuating mechanism comprises a worm p<4>, driven in one or the other direction by gearing controlled by the floating roller, engaging a worm-wheel p<3> threaded on a spindle p<2>. The worm and worm-wheel are mounted in a casing p pivoted to the upper brake lever o<2> and carrying a spring or other pin p<7> engaging one of a number of recesses in a collar p<5> slidable but not rotatable upon the spindle p<2>. The lower end of the spindle p<2> engages directly with the lower brake-lever o<2>. By disconnecting the pin p<7> from the collar p<5>, the spindle p<2> may be rotated by hand so as to adjust the brake blocks independently of the worm gear,
