Abstract

Fusible cut-outs. - A bridge-carrier fuse has contacts consisting of a plug-and-socket coupling, of which either the plug or socket is divided into two parts resiliently connected together so as to be pressed into contact with the no-resilient member of the coupling, and machined to fit. A socket C, Fig. 1, on the carrier K is made in two parts pressed together by encircling springs D and mounted by means of a shoulder c' and plate F to allow limited movement of the whole socket. This is used with a solid plug A, the socket being bored to the same diameter as the plug, either before dividing it, or after division with a distance piece between the two parts. A resilient plug A', Fig. 2<A>, may be used, made in two parts with an expanding spring D<1> forcing them apart, the movement being limited by a ring a<19> located in a groove a<18> and covered by a plate a<20>. Such a plug is machined to fit a one-piece socket. The fuse wires are secured by plates h' and screws H, some wires of a multiple fuse being attached to each part of the divided plug or socket. For light current use, one of the two socket parts may be integral with the base. The wires are arranged side by side in an open-ended duct in the carrier, the duct having laterally disposed vents near its centre.
