Abstract
294,689. Arnold, C. L., and M. K. Electric, Ltd. April 29, 1927. Two-part couplings; plug couplings; prev e n t i n g sparking, means for.-The fixed contacts, such as sockets 2, are protected, when the movable contacts 10 are withdrawn, by a cap 4 of insulating material made in two or more parts drawn together by resilient means such as a garter spring 7 to cover the contacts 2. Each socket may have a separate shield which may have a shoulder 20, Fig. 9, to form a rocking support and a metal lining 19 that makes contact both with the plug and the socket and maintains the circuit after the contacts have separated to prevent sparking between the plug and socket. Both contacts may be covered by a single cap 4, Fig. 8, having a central projection 11 on which the cap rocks laterally being maintained in a symmetrical position by springs 12. If pressure is applied to one side only the cap is tilted as shown, and projections 14, 15 on the two parts of the cap enter narrow recesses 16, 18 that prevent the cap opening. The resilient means may be mounted on the base or cover of the device.
